The geothermal project is sponsored by Ormat Nevada Inc and consists of three geothermal power facilities: Jersey Valley in Pershing County, McGinness Hills in Lander County and Tuscarora in Elko County.
"Geothermal power offers consistent electricity production 24 hours a day," says Energy Secretary Steven Chu. "This project will help our nation maintain its position as the world's leader in installed geothermal capacity, while creating hundreds of jobs in Nevada."
The geothermal facilities feature Ormat Energy Converter (OEC) modules, which employ a binary organic Rankine cycle.
The geothermal project is expected to produce over 1 TWh annually, and the output could be sold to Nevada Power Company under a long-term power purchase agreement.
